Yan Huang is a Regents Professor of Department of Computer Science and Engineering, at the University of North Texas , Denton, TX, USA. She is a ACM Distinguished Member and a UNT Decker Scholar.

She served as the Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies of College of Engineering 2016-2019 with a break in between to serve as the Interim Dean of the College July 2018- Dec. 2018. She was Senior Associate Dean 2019-2021 concurrently with the role of Director of Graduate Studies 2019-2020 and Interim Chair of Computer Science and Engineering 2020-2021 .

Her research interests include spatio-temporal databases and mining, geo-stream data processing, smart transportation, and location-based social networks. She has been a visiting scholar of Microsoft Research Asia May - Aug. 2011. During Fall 2011, she visited Fudan University , Shanghai, China. Her research is supported by Texas Advanced Research Program (ARP), Oak Ridge National Lab, NSF, Texas Department of Transportation, and DoD. Click for her Google Scholar page.

She received her B.S. degree in Computer Science from Peking University, Beijing, China, in July 1997 and Ph.D. degree in, Computer Science from University of Minnesota , Twin-cities, MN, USA, in July 2003.
